Checkered Dresden

Everybody loves a Dresden and This is One to Catch Your Eye!!

Materials Needed:

For Full/Queen

1 jelly roll and a few strips from your stash to

Mix in in case you need more variety

5 3/4 yards for background (I used 2 1/2 yds of 108")

2 yards for border (my border came from

what I plan to use for the quilt backing)

1/4 yard or a fat quarter for circles (you can also use

your border fabric)

a Dresden Plate Template 10"

a shape to trace for circles (saucer, masking tape, cup, etc)

Depending how  you want to attach your center circle,

you may want to bring fusible bond.

The Full/Queen uses 9 "plates"  to make

a Throw plan on 4 "plates" using background  pieces 22" x 22" from a piece 1 1/2 yards  x 44 wide and add border(s) to desired size.

For a Twin, make 6 Plates on  background pieces 22" x 22" from a piece 2 yards x 44" in wide. Add border(s) to desired size.

Looking For More of a Challenge?

Try a "Crazy Dresden" that uses random sizes??

These plates turn out larger than the checkered

They use jelly roll strips for the center two

strips and use pieces cut from yardage in 2",3",4"

and 5" inch strips.

If you want to give this a try you will need 3/4 yard of a

background fabric for each plate.

1 jelly roll

2 1/2 yards of a fabric for the random size pieces.

In the top sample that would be the white.

Fabric from your stash for the center circles.

Should you prefer to make a quilt from a retreat

that you missed, I will bring instructions packets

for Attic Windows, Frame Quilt, Scrappy Double Irish

Chain With Stars and Sugar and Spice. If you don't have

the Brochure and need yardage, contact me on the Penn

York camp facebook page.
